The Paarsee Language—known today as Modern Persian—is one of the world’s oldest living cultural languages. In this work, Abbas Mokhtarzadeh introduces the concept of Paarsee as a continuous linguistic tradition that connects the earliest Persian expressions of antiquity to the vibrant Persian language spoken today.

Rather than viewing Persian only through separated historical stages, this new perspective presents Paarsee as a living cultural and literary continuum that has evolved for thousands of years while preserving its poetic beauty, intellectual depth, and shared heritage.

Ancient Origins

The roots of Paarsee reach back to the ancient Iranian languages of the Indo-European family. Early Persian forms appeared in the inscriptions and traditions of ancient Iranian civilizations, reflecting the birth of a language that would shape the culture and identity of a vast region.

Evolution Through History

Over centuries, Paarsee developed through several historical phases, each contributing to its richness and expressive power:

  • Ancient Paarsee – the early language of Iranian civilizations and royal traditions.

  • Imperial Paarsee – the language of administration, science, and philosophy across powerful empires.

  • Classical Paarsee – the golden age of Persian literature, poetry, and scholarship that influenced cultures from Anatolia to India.

  • Modern Paarsee – the living language spoken today by millions across Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and worldwide communities.

A Shared Language, Many Voices

Today, Paarsee lives through several closely related forms, including Farsi, Dari, and Tajik, each reflecting regional history while sharing a common linguistic soul. Despite differences in pronunciation or script, these forms remain deeply connected through centuries of literature, storytelling, and cultural expression.

A Living Heritage

Spoken by more than one hundred million people and celebrated through poetry, philosophy, music, and modern media, Paarsee continues to bridge past and present. Its words carry the voices of ancient scholars, great poets, and contemporary writers who keep this timeless language alive.

Paarsee Language (Modern Persian) invites readers to explore the long journey of Persian; from its ancient beginnings to its enduring role in the modern world—through a fresh and engaging perspective.
